Scindia Denies Further AGR Relief for Telecom Companies Beyond Vodafone Idea

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has stated that there will be no additional relief on adjusted gross revenue (AGR) for telecom operators, apart from what has already been provided to Vodafone Idea. He also mentioned plans to launch satellite services in India, contingent on finalizing the pricing for spectrum allocation.
AGR Relief Stance
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has clarified that there will be no further adjustments to the relief on adjusted gross revenue (AGR) for telecom companies beyond what has already been extended to Vodafone Idea. This statement comes amid ongoing discussions about the financial challenges faced by various telecom operators in the country.
According to a report by NDTV Business (Profit), Scindia emphasized that the government’s current focus is on ensuring that the existing measures are sufficient to support the sector without introducing additional relief packages.
Satellite Services Rollout
In addition to addressing AGR concerns, Scindia expressed a strong interest in advancing satellite services in India. He noted that the launch of these services is dependent on finalizing the pricing mechanism for spectrum assignment. The minister's comments reflect the government's commitment to enhancing telecommunications infrastructure, which is crucial for both urban and rural connectivity.
The discussions around satellite services are part of a broader strategy to improve digital access across the nation. As the government works on these initiatives, the focus remains on balancing the needs of telecom operators with the regulatory framework in place.
